Poetry
While at Stanford first as an undergrad and continuing into a masters program, Carrie studied English and poetry with professors including Denise Levertov, Ann Neelon and David Riggs. Her early work reflects many of the same themes driving her coverage of Asian American issues as a journalist, both at Stanford and in Monolid Magazine. One of these, “Of Miss Saigon, Madame Butterfly, Etc.,” has been published in several venues and even inspired work by Bay Area artist Barbara Milman.
Poetry remained a passion over the years, with subjects shifting to encompass her experiences as a writer and poet living variously in Taipei, New York (where she obtained a Masters of Fine Arts in poetry at New York University) and the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2016 she founded Lotus Literary Magazine, featuring poetry by herself and others in her poetry community.
